A bike on autopilot? The designer proposed a two-wheeler project for Tesla

Tsey's material is also available in Ukrainian

An industrial designer created an electric bicycle project for Tesla. The author of the idea envisages the installation of an autonomous driving system in his two-wheeler. How does it work?

Tesla, a California-based electric car maker, occasionally releases products that don't fit its profile.

One of the newer products is the branded tequila with a lightning bolt bottle.

Before that, Tesla had released red shorts for sale (as the company taunted its short-term shareholders) and Elon Musk separately announced the production of "safe flamethrowers."

Unusual electric bikes can become a new product for the company. At least one transportation project offered to industrial designer Turner Kendall (Kendall Toerner).

Turner, called the Tesla Model B, suggests adding a few key innovations to this all-electric bike.

First, unlike existing e-bikes, the Model B will have no pedals, just footrests. Two electric motors installed in the central part of the wheels must take care of the movement of the bicycle.

The designer claims that this will allow the Model B to become "a bridge between bicycles and road vehicles."

But the main feature of the project is the absence of a classic steering wheel and the presence of an autonomous control system. It is expected that the choice of the direction of travel on the B model will be possible using small forces on the static horizontal rudder (as on a gyro scooter).

And on the bike frame, Turner plans to install a large Tesla-style longitudinal display that will display the road map and traffic data.

The Model B will also receive a set of sensors that will allow the bike to automatically monitor the situation on the road and move independently.

It is not yet known if this project will survive in production, but the idea for it fits exactly with Elon Musk's concept of electric transportation of the future.

Electrek taking

Obviously I'm kidding with the title. This is not the main reason you wish this accident didn't happen.

Otherwise it would be insensitive, but I think the fact that he was in a motorcycle accident as a child is not a good reason Tesla not to ride motorcycles.

To be fair, there are plenty of reasons why Tesla shouldn't get involved in 2-wheelers, which is a whole different transportation segment for Tesla, but the CEO who had a bad experience with them as a teenager. is quite strange. In my opinion.

I just think if Tesla put their design and engineering power into making an electric motorcycle, it could make a really good one and Gawley's design exercise gives us a sense of its potential.
